Good Evening to all of you. Your presence makes this evening more colourful and thrilling.


At the very outset I feel proud to take this opportunity as the privileged Principal of this school.  At this hour, on behalf of all students and staff, I would like to extend a warm welcome to the Honourable Chief Guest Gp Capt Manu Kapoor, Station Commander, Air Force Station, Thane, Esteemed Guest of Honour Madam Sonal Kapoor, President, AFWWA, Distinguished Special Invitees, Respected members of the Vidyalaya Management Committee, Members of Parent Teacher Association, Members of Alumni Association, Principals of various schools & colleges, representatives of press and media, Parents, family members of KV Staff, Prize Winners, Participants in Cultural Pageant and Students to this august occasion of this Annual Day Celebration of this school.


With the kind permission of Chief Guest and Guest of Honour, I would like to take the privilege to present the annual report of 2016-17, which voices with humble pride, the scaled heights of progress of the vidyalaya.


1.     Inception of KV, AFS, Thane

Kendriya Vidyalaya, Air Force Station, Thane came into existence in 1981.  Modestly it was opened and gradually it is now running in two shifts upto Class XII with Science and Commerce Streams with an enrolment of 1400 students and 80 staff members. It is catering to the educational needs of the children of transferable or non-transferable Central Government or State Government employees and others subject to availability of seats in accordance with rules laid down from time to time by Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan which is under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, established in 1964 having a brand name in the field of education not only in India with nearly 1100 schools but also abroad in Moscow, Katmandu and Teheran.


2.     Academic achievements

The best yardstick to measure the laurels won is the academic results of the vidyalaya. In 2015-16 CBSE results, overall pass percentage in Class XII is 96.8 and in Class X 100%. The topper in Class XII Science is Master Shivang Kaul with 94.2, in Class XII Humanities Kumari Prachi Shree with 93.8 and in Class XII Commerce Kumari Meeta Kumari with 92%. The topper in Class X is Kumari Paulmi Datta with 97.4% securing A1 Grades in all 5 subjects.



3.     Scouts and Guides

The Vidyalaya is registered with KVS Division of Bharat Scouts and Guides for scout-guide activities and a large number of students are enrolled as Cubs & Bulbuls, Scouts & Guides under the able Trainers in Scouting and Guiding.  Six students got Rajya Puraskar Award this year. Cubs & Bulbuls Utsav was also organized. Mr. Arjun Singh (myself) has been nominated as the District Commissioner of Scouts for KVS State.


4.     Sports Achievements

This year there was a large scale participation of students in Sports & Games at Cluster, Regional, National Levels and SGFI as well.  66 students participated at National Level and 17 students at SGFI. Kumari Apoorva bagged Gold Medals in Rope Skipping at SGFI. Master Om Atul Gavandi got Trophy in Badmintion at Maharashtra State Level. We can’t over rule the possibility that ten years from now, glued to our television sets, we may watch one of our students as India’s leading sports personality.


5.     Common Minimum Programme for Primary Education

The Vidyalaya has fully equipped resource room to ensure development of skills amongst tender aged students.  Various programmes like community lunch, excursion, and celebration of various days are the part of common minimum programme of primary education.  Bala Mela and Grand Parents Day were organized. The school hosted CMP cluster level meetings and brought out the News Letter also.


6.     Celebrations and Observances

·        KV, AFS, Thane is taking a very keen interest to be the part and parcel of the national drive – Swatcha Bharat Abhiyan - propounded by the honourable Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi. A rally of students was organized to bring awareness among people in the importance of cleanliness. Cleaning the public places is one of the items in the agenda. 

·        In order to promote patriotism and Indianness among students, Flag Hoisting is being done every day in the school as per the Flag Code under the instructions of KVS.

·        Important days like Thinking Day, National Science Day, National Unity Day, National Education Day, National Constitutional Day, World Aids Day, Mother Tongue Day, Youth Day, Yaad Karo Kurbani, etc. were celebrated apart from the regular and periodical Mass PT, Yoga and Co-curricular Activities which invest confidence in the young brains.


7.     E-Granthalaya

In Primary Section, Class Library System is being maintained by Class Teachers and for higher classes, Digitalized Library (E-Granthalaya) is accessible.  The Library is well equipped with Reference Books, Text Books, Journals and Dailies.


8.     Infrastructure

·        The Vidyalaya follows latest trends in the field of information technology.  The school has 3 Computer Labs equipping nearly 100 Computers and 14 LCD Projectors, 2 Magic Studios, 11 Smart Boards and one Visualizer and latest gadgets to facilitate interactive learning.  The student computer ratio is 1:20. 

·        The Vidyalaya has its own website ( which is regularly maintained and updated with the information required for students and parents as well.

·        The Vidyalaya has fully-equipped Physics, Chemistry and Biology Labs; enough number of Wash Rooms, RO Filter and 4 Water Coolers.

·        Shaala Darpan is a very prestigious project initiated by Ministry of HRD and is also included in Honourable Prime Minister’s Digital India Project. This project is successfully being implemented in all Kendriya Vidyalayas with effect from April 2016. Online admissions which have been initiated this year onwards, is one of the great moves in this regard. 

·        Payment of school fee online/offline modes through Union Bank of India is another mile stone for its success in all Kendriya Vidyalayas with effect from April 2015.


9.     VMC, PTA, Alumni Association & Student Council Meetings

·        The meetings of the Vidyalaya Management Committee are convened on 10th August 2016, 5th December 2016 and 27th February 2017 to discuss various issues and to work for the upliftment of the school. 

·        The members of Parent Teacher Association also met together thrice on 30th July, on 10th September and on 26th November 2016, and delineated so many things which require for the versatile development of students. 

·        Alumni Association has followed the same.

·        The meetings of Student Council Members is a regular activity to promote discipline.


10.            CBSE/Other Assignments

KV, AFS, Thane is not only the centre for the most sensitive competitive examinations of the country namely Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT), KVS Recruitment Examination, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti Recruitment Examination, Air Force Competitive Examinations, etc. Further, KV, AFS, Thane is the Nodal Centre for CBSE online/offline Evaluation.  


11.            Miscellaneous Achievements

1.     Master Apoorv Kishore got selection in IIT, Mumbai and two more students got selection in Medical Colleges.

2.     Mock Fire Drills were conducted twice last year in order to equip students to save their lives and other lives at the time of exigencies like Fire Accidents, Terrorist Attacks, Earth Quakes, Floods.

3.     Regular and periodical medical checkup of students has been done.

4.     After completion of every exam, Parent Teacher Meetings were organized in order to apprise of the performance of students, for their future strategies to get good percentage of marks and mould their careers.

5.     Homi Baba Bal Vaignanik Spardha, National Science Examination, International Olympiads called National Standard Examinations in Physics, Chemistry, Biology conducted by Indian Association of Physics, National Children Congress, Junior Mathematics Olympiad, Junior Science and Astronomy, Green Olympiad,  Adolescence Education Programmes,  Vigilance Awareness Programmes, Cancer Awareness Programmes, Hindi Pakwada, Counselling sessions by institutes like Aakash, FITJEE, Resonance were held with a view to expose students to tap their goals.

6.     Pre-Junior Maths Olympiad was conducted on 6-8-2016 in which 42 students from Classes IX & X participated.

7.     Junior Maths Olympiad was conducted on 4-9-2016 in which 62 students from Classes X & XII participated.

8.     The school was inspected by a team of members comprising the Deputy Commissioner Madam Chandana Mandal and Assistant Commissioners Madam Sarita Naswa, Madam Shruti Bhargava and Mr. GA Narasimham and Principals of other KVs.  Visit of Station Commander Gp Capt Manu Kapoor is common phenomena.

9.     The school has been honoured with a Certificate of Appreciation by Indian Association for the Blind for monetary contribution.


Before I conclude, I would like to inform that the Vidyalaya is presently functioning in the building which is yet to scale new heights in the years to roll by with great pace under the leadership of Chairman, Vidyalaya Management Committee Gp Capt Manu Kapoor, Station Commander.   

Overall, it is clearly established that the students of Kendriya vidyalaya are abundant in talent, and given right direction and guidance and will definitely come on top which was already shown during last few years.  Finally I feel that every one of us should express heartfelt gratitude to Honourable Chairman of Vidyalaya Management Committee Gp Capt Manu Kapoor for his fine and intellectual gesture and concern towards the development and welfare of school.

I would like to thank Madam Sonal Kapoor, President of AFWWA to grace this occasion in giving away the prizes, medals, trophies and shields to toppers and winners.   I would like to thank all the members of VMC and PTA who have always stood by us with their valuable suggestions, guidance and help at every point of time.  I feel my duty to convey thanks all the special invitees, media persons, Principals, parents and the staff for the genuine help and cooperation extended to the vidyalaya for the betterment of school and students throughout the year and the years and let me hope the same continue for years to come, to take up challenges and work efficiently to excel in all targets set by Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan.

In the words of John Dewey, “Education is not preparation of life. Education is life itself.”  I do hope that the committed & highly talented, righteous & erudite staff of KV, AFS, Thane is preparing your wards to be the positive, intellectual and responsible citizens of the country through education.
